Abstract:

Environmental pollution has grown to be a major issue on a worldwide scale, with serious implications for human health. The purpose of this literature review is to investigate the connection between environmental harm and the effects it has on mental health. To give a thorough knowledge of how many types of pollution, such as air, water, soil, and noise pollution, contribute to the decline in mental health, the review synthesizes available studies. The review starts by laying out the backdrop and context of the study, emphasizing how crucial it is to look into how environmental pollution and mental health are related. Following that, it looks at the research that already exists on the connection between environmental pollution and mental health, examining the many mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, and cognitive decline that are linked to pollution exposure. Diverse pollution sources are given particular focus. Examining the processes and channels through which air pollution affects mental health, the review dives deeply into the negative consequences of air pollution on mental health. The effect of soil and water contamination on mental health outcomes is also examined. It is also highlighted how noise pollution, another prevalent environmental stressor, affects mental health issues. The important findings from the literature review are summarized in the paper's conclusion, and the ramifications of the decline in mental health caused by environmental pollution are discussed. It underlines the importance of more research as well as preventative actions and treatments to deal with this pressing problem. Overall, this literature review offers a thorough examination of the decline in mental health brought on by environmental pollution, highlighting the pressing need for action to lessen its negative impacts on both individuals and society at large.
