Abstract:

Objective To investigate the traits and influencing elements of depression in senior hypertension individuals. Methods Depressive symptoms were measured using the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) in a sample of 300 elderly hypertensive patients at our hospital; Single and multiple factor logistic regression were used to examine the patients' general information. Results Among the 300 elderly patients with hypertension, 131 (43.67%) had depression, including 86 (28.67%) with mild depression, 36 (12.00%) with moderate depression, and 9 (3.00%) with severe depression; The elderly patients with hypertension tended to have depression in women, with BMI<18.5kg/m2, no spouse, low education level, abnormal systolic blood pressure, longer duration of hypertension, complications, smoking, drinking, low monthly income, self paying, living alone, never participating in group activities, and no proper exercise (P<0.05); Independent risk factors for depression in elderly hypertensive patients included gender, body mass index, marital status, level of education, systolic blood pressure, duration of hypertension, complications, smoking, alcohol use, medical insurance coverage, housing, social support, and physical activity. Conclusion While there is a high prevalence of depression in older people with hypertension, numerous factors contribute to this condition, allowing for more specific therapeutic prevention and treatment.
