Abstract:

Background: Despite being one of the most frequent malignancies worldwide, the epidemiology of Colorectal Cancer (CRC) varies greatly from one place to the next. Traditional inflammation-based CRC prognostic assessments include the modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS) and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Evidence suggests that the systemic inflammation score (SIS) is more useful than the mGPS in CRC. Albumin and the NLR are the two components that make up the albumin-NLR score, and this score might potentially be a good inflammatory indicator. Concerning the usefulness of the mGPS, SIS, and albumin NLR for patients with CRC who have had radical resections, however, there is still some uncertainty.

Methods: Between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2014, 877 individuals with CRC who had radical surgical resection were included in this research. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS version 22.0 and R studio version 3.4.2. Independent “Kaplan Meier survival analysis (KMSA)”, “Cox regression (CR)”, and time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis were used to examine the prognostic value of the mGPS, the SIS, and the albumin-NLR.

Results: To provide better therapy and improve clinical practice for patients with CRC, this paper summarizes the current status of CRC treatment, including NOLRR of CRC combined with positive suggestions for psychological intervention on the inflammatory response, based on the clinical situation in China.

Conclusion: Evidence from this study demonstrates that effectiveness and quality of life for patients with CRC have increased as a result of advances in therapy.
