Abstract:

Objective: To analyze the current situation of geriatric medical education for medical undergraduates and the effect of curriculum reform, and to provide reference for the curriculum reform of geriatric medical education. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 2074 medical undergraduates enrolled from 2013 to 2016 who had carried out undergraduate geriatric medicine teaching. Descriptive analysis and chi-square test were used to analyze the effect of geriatric medical education on the mastery of knowledge of medical undergraduates and the employment hospitals in this direction after the reform of colleges and universities in Henan Province. Results: At present, there is only one public university carrying out geriatric medical undergraduate education in our province. Before the reform, 11.3% (49/429) of the students were very dissatisfied or dissatisfied with the course, which was slightly higher than 7.4% (122/1645) after the reform. The proportion of students who were very unwilling or unwilling to engage in geriatric medicine was 27.3% (107/429) in the pre-reform group, which was significantly higher than 17.3% (285/1645) in the post-reform group. Conclusion: Geriatric medical education is conducive to improving the correct understanding of geriatric medical services for clinical medical undergraduates, as well as their willingness to provide medical and health services for the elderly and to engage in geriatric medicine.
