Abstract:

[Objective] Cemented hip replacement has become one of the most important and mature methods for total hip replacement in most elderly patients and patients with bone injury. The research have observed that the increase rate in postoperative revision surgery for a variety of reasons was much higher than that in primary joint replacement. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the causes of  cemented hip fixation failure. [Methods] The web of science database was searched to identify the papers related to the failure characteristics of cemented hip joints. The search period is 2017-2022. Keywords "total hip replacement", "Stem", "Femur", "Loosening" and "Bone cement" were used to search, and after deleting repeated and substandard papers, 45 literatures were finally selected for analysis. [Results] A total of 56 eligible articles were identified and their manifestation patterns and possible factors were analyzed to determine the most relevant causes in the existing literatures. [Conclusion] The main factors affecting the failure of cemented hip joint fixation can be summarized as stress shielding, fatigue fracture damage of bone cement, stem-bone cement interface debinding, fretting wear and particle reaction.
